Background
We're working on Jay's full bio - check back soon.
Jay Gerbino is VIA's Head Judo Coach, USJA Accredited, and a black belt in both Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Judo. He has trained in martial arts for most of his life, including wrestling in high school and MMA as a young man, before beginning BJJ in 2015 and Judo in 2017 - earning his black belts in both disciplines in 2024.
What has kept him drawn to Jiu-Jitsu and Judo is the depth behind both arts - the constant problem solving, attention to detail, and the balance between technique, timing, pressure, and movement. There is always something to refine, regardless of experience level.
He believes training doesn't need to completely change your life to have a meaningful impact on it. Jiu-Jitsu and Judo can enhance the life you already have by building confidence, resilience, discipline, physical awareness, and a better understanding of how to stay composed while solving difficult problems.
As an instructor, Jay enjoys helping students find that same appreciation for the process while developing practical, efficient technique and a style of their own.
