What You'll Train

Pressure, Not Just Pace

Advanced isn't Fundamentals run faster - it's a different problem entirely. Once escapes and basic control are automatic, the real work starts: guard systems that chain together instead of standing alone, submission sequences that keep working when the first option gets defended, and passing concepts built for someone who already knows how to retain guard. Pressure - the actual physical weight and positioning that makes a bigger or more skilled opponent hard to move - gets taught directly here, not left for you to discover the hard way. Every session ends with live rounds and a coach actively giving feedback while it's happening, not just at the end.

How Growth Actually Gets Measured Here

Four Things Have To Be True Before A Technique Counts As Learned

A technique that works once against a cooperative partner isn't learned yet - it's just been seen. The standard used in serious instructional grappling breaks real skill acquisition into four distinct stages: understanding a technique conceptually, being able to perform it against no resistance, performing it against a partner who resists at increasing levels, and finally pulling it off live against someone actively trying to stop you. Most gyms only ever train the first two and call it done. What separates Advanced from every class that came before it is that the last two stages - real resistance, then live pressure - are the actual point, not an occasional add-on. That's also why pressure gets coached directly here instead of left as something you're supposed to just absorb by getting rolled on enough times.

A technique isn't learned at stage two. It's learned at stage four - live, against someone actively trying to stop you.

What To Expect

What A Class Actually Looks Like

No surprises on day one. Every Adult Advanced session follows the same real structure.

01

Advanced Concepts

Guard systems and submission chains taught at a pace that assumes fundamentals are already automatic - this builds on what you already have, not from scratch.

02

Pressure Testing

Concepts get drilled against real resistance, not a cooperative partner - passing, retention, and control tested the way they actually get used.

03

Live Sparring

Every session ends with live rounds and a coach giving real-time feedback while it happens, not saved for after class.

Common Questions About Adult Advanced

Around 2.3 years of consistent training to reach blue belt, based on large practitioner surveys. That's the real entry point for this class - not a formality, since the pace and resistance level here assume that foundation is already solid.

The three areas grappling loads hardest - hips, shoulders, lower back - hold up best when live rounds are trained smart, not just hard. Tapping early and controlled positional work matter more at this level, not less, since the resistance is real.

Only if it's paired with the strength to control it. Flexibility without stability is how advanced practitioners get caught in positions their joints can't actually hold under real pressure - this class trains both together.

Advanced guard and passing work pushes joints through ranges of motion basic classes rarely touch - deep hip rotation under load, spinal positions during scrambles. Mobility isn't optional here, it's what keeps advanced students training instead of injured.
